A crankshaft oil scraper does what its name implies. It conforms closely to the spinning crankshaft and strips oil away to be returned to the sump. Otherwise, the oil gets whipped up into a heavy shaving cream consistency that retains heat and reduces oil quantity in the sump and passing through the cooler. This part is a necessity when trying to maintain acceptable oil temperatures in extreme conditions.
